Coming to Fakuma: Engel to display new multidynamic software

Austrian injection moulding machinery supplier Engel is unveiling the upgraded version of its multidynamic software during the Fakuma plastics show in Friedrichshafen, Germany 16-20 Oct.

The software, which was originally launched three years ago, automatically adapts the speed of the robot movements to the current load and thus shortens the cycle time in many applications.

Whereas the original release was only able to optimise the speed of the linear axes as a function of the load, the new release now also controls the speed of the servomotor-driven rotary axes.

Traditionally the maximum speed and acceleration of robot movements are designed for the maximum load-bearing capacity and the greatest possible strokes.

With mulitdynamic, when loads are lower, and strokes are shorter, Engel viper robots move faster, therefore enabling shorter cycle times.

The software, which can be applied to the standard range of all Engel viper robots, automatically controls the speed and acceleration as a function of the load, therefore the plant operator does not need to manually optimise the robot speed.

The software, Engel claims, “combines the shortest possible cycle times with the best possible precision, energy efficiency and service life of the mechanical components.”

In the updated release, the software can also determine the maximum allowable dynamics from the weight handled and the gravity distance from the rotary axes. Through this additional optimisation, the handling time can be reduced by a further 10 to 30% in rotation-intensive applications, according to Engel.

Additionally, if the system detects an overload it gives a warning message for the system operator to prevent excessive wear on the mechanically-driven components.

At Fakuma, multidynamic will be premiered on Engel viper 20 robot.
